Informal and Formal differences

Today in class we learned abou The difference between informal and formal differences.

  5. Usually you will greet the receiver and ask about his/ her well-being in an informal letter but in a formal letter, you would greet the receiver and then 'cut to the chase'.

Also the greeting for a formal letter is usually something you would not say in your everyday like, unlike that of an informal letter.

  10. A formal letter can be written for a business situation, being respectful and direct yet simultaneously mindful of the words written in a serious manner. The formal letter is usually written to people that you do not know on a personal level or acquainted to.

    An informal letter can be written to people you are related to or familiar with. The tone is relatively chatty, relaxed and may contain some humour. The informal letter is usually written to relatives, friends or known acquaintances on a informal subject.

  11. Informal letters are more directed towards friends, family and generally people that are close personally. The tone and way of writing is more relaxed and casual. Formal letters are usually directed towards people of a higher position, or people that you are not close with such as employees, teachers, etc. The tone is more serious and usually there is no usage of casual language.

An informal letter is usually more towards writing towards peers or relatives without much seriousness, and it's mainly about unimportant stuff, perhaps just asking for their well-being after their holiday trip and some components in formal letters like the subject title can not be found in an informal letter.
    Formal letters have those components and is direct. It is written to people who you are unfamiliar with.

    Formal letter are usually written in a serious tone, to people with higher authority or who do not know you well and mostly about important things.
